Our Morocco tour, December 2011 with Morocco Tours & Excursions

We are very well travelled and although always book our holidays directly in the country visiting, we are always a little apprehensive when we arrive as to how good the tour company is? We had nothing to concern us – Hicham met us at the airport, smart, cheerfully greeted us and make us feel at home in Morocco within minutes. He showed us the transport which was a nearly new Mercedes for 7 people so just being the two of us we had plenty of room. Our trip around Morocco had started on a high.

We can only describe our trip from here on as superb, exhilarating as we toured from Casablanca, through to Rabat, Meknes, Volubilis to FEZ with a local guide organised in each town. The riads were all excellent, clean, staff helpful and very tasty Moroccan food.

From Fez to Merzouga was a full day drive – arduous – yet very fascinating. Driving from Fez over the middle Atlas Mountains, passing the Atlas Mountain was superb. We wished it had taken three days and not one as the scenery was breath taking, diverse and we wanted to keep stopping for photographs. Passing through lush green forests at the top and then variations of arid desert until we reached Merzouga. What a trip, stopping at “little Switzerland”, Nomadic tents and eating at local village restaurants – absolutely fantastic.

The two hour trek on the camels to our Berber tent where we stayed the night – another perfect experience. Back on the camel next morning to Erfold (the fossil area) then up north passing through Ouarzazate, visiting the Unesco site of Ait Benhadou (brilliant) where we visited an old Berber house. We carried on to Agadir, along the coast to Essaouira and finally to Marrakech.

The trip covered all of our criteria, seeing historic sites, Kasbah’s, Souks, meeting and eating with local people, staying in excellent Riads and seeing varying landscapes of Morocco.

Our trip to Morocco was excellent in all ways – thank you to Hicham who was one of the best driver/guide we have had. We would recommend Travel Morocco Tours to anybody. They were thoughtful, courteous, cared about us, never late, kept our car nibbles topped up every day, spoke good English (and three other languages) and good fun to be with.

The only negative of the trip which down to us – we did not stay long enough!!

Hicham was a knowledgeable guide who impressed me with his willingness and ability to answer my incessant questions about Morocco. He was friendly, interesting and made me feel comfortable in a country where I did not speak the language or understand the customs or the food. The thing I appreciated the most was his willingness to break from the planned tour when I asked. These breaks meant I was able to see the 'real' Morocco - these were the most priceless moments and are some of the stories I have most enjoyed sharing out of my whole 3 months traveling.
